Dry Skin Care
Dry skin produces low level of sebum (the skin’s natural moisturiser) and is noticeably flaky around the mouth, cheeks and forehead. Using soap, water and toner causes problems for this skin type, because they leave your skin feeling tight and uncomfortable
This type of skin needs regular feeding with thick, creamy, hydrating moisturizers-morning and night- to keep it in good condition and to avoid the premature aging to which dry skin is prone. Avoid products containing lanolin or any fragrance, which may stress your skin.
To hydrate mildly dry skin, try a moisturiser with an oil-in-water emulsion (meaning that the product is more water than oil). These light moisturizers penetrate the skin easily and don’t leave sticky, greasy feeling behind.
Dry skin produces less oil than other skin types, so it’s more vulnerable to sun damage, including age spots, blotches and wrinkles. You can lesson your risk of skin damage by using a sunscreen with a sun protection factor of at least 15.
Do’s and Don’ts for Dry Skin
Do:
Cleanse thoroughly at night to remove makeup. In the morning, simply splash your face with lukewarm water.
Moisturize while your skin is still damp from cleansing.
Choose creamy, oil-rich makeup.
Prevent sun damage by using a strong sunscreen daily.
Don't:
Wash your face with soap. Choose a mild, soap-free liquid cleanse instead.
Scrub your face with abrasive pads, washcloths or grainy cleansers.
Continue to use a moisturizer that makes you break out.
Mistake seborrheic dermatitis for dry skin; see a dermatologist if you're not sure.
